21st Century Sino-Germany Science and Technology Development and IPR Protection Seminar held in Beijing
From October 8th to 11th, the Sino-Germany Seminar on 21st Century Science and Technology Development and IPR Protection was held in Beijing. The following institutions jointly sponsored the seminar: the Intellectual Property School and the Law School of Beijing University as well as the Sino-German Institute for Legal Studies of Universities of Goettingen and Nanjing. Patrons included the Sino-German Science Center (co-established by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft(DFG)), and the seminar was assisted by “China Intellectual Property” magazine, and Hurrymedia Corporation Limited. The seminar served as a platform for academic exchanges between Chinese and foreign scholars, and created conditions for further cooperation. Germany is a well-established and developed country in the West, while China is the largest developing country in both economic and social terms. The two countries have respective histories and practical features in IPR systems and their subsequent development. They have also demonstrated different priorities in terms of research orientations. They expect to have further discussions to further promote IPR research and march together towards the new century and a new era for IPR protection.

The seminar was attended by 40 experts from both China and Germany. They discussed the effects of the IPR legal system on scientific and technological development around the world. Topics included such front-line issues as protection of patents, trademarks and copyrights and the actual law enforcement of IPR protection. The seminar aims to complement each other’s awareness on the basis of exchanges between Chinese and German experts in their respective research fields, so as to lay a solid foundation for further researches and cooperation. They also discussed how to improve and develop the IPR system.
